We are a team of leaders in fire science, applied science, forestry, policy, and tech who work with land managers, community risk managers, utilities, and insurers to drive action that lowers the risk of destructive wildfire. Our fire science subsidiary, Pyrologix, produces leading wildfire science and models that quantify wildfire hazard and risk, and the benefits of mitigation action. This science powers the core Vibrant Planet platform and supports our work across utilities, insurance, and other sectors.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our applications support decision making to keep communities safer and ecosystems healthier. As application engineers, we build tools that land managers, fire districts, and utility planners use to make decisions to mitigate wildfire and climate risk, across our wildfire resilience and utilities applications. These applications run and present the results of optimizations and simulations as both statistics in tables and charts, and layers on a map.

We build full stack features within an Elixir, Phoenix LiveView, and Postgres application stack. We collaborate with product, design, data engineering, infrastructure, science, and operations.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You thrive on building great products in a startup atmosphere. Given a loosely defined problem, you can collaborate with others to resolve ambiguities and ship high quality features.

Many of our engineers bring a second area of expertise alongside their technical skills, like ecology, forestry, or fire science. If you've built a career at the intersection of natural sciences and engineering, we want to hear from you.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping full-stack web applications.

• Hands-on experience turning designs into responsive, accessible UIs. You have worked closely with product and design partners.

• Strong proficiency with SQL and relational databases. PostgreSQL experience is a bonus.

• Comfortable working in a fully remote, fast-paced startup environment.

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
