About the role

As Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) continues its rapid expansion, we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (IC3) to join our Database and Host Automation team. This team builds the services and host agents that manage database infrastructure at scale, supporting provisioning, lifecycle management, live database migrations, maintenance, recovery, and region bootstrap.

This is a greenfield opportunity to design and build new automation services and secure host execution capabilities from the ground up. Your work will connect durable, fleet-wide orchestration with reliable database and operating system operations on individual hosts, improving availability, consistency, and operational safety while minimizing customer disruption. You will independently drive complex projects from architecture through production operation, collaborating with database, infrastructure, and security teams. As a technical leader, you will guide design decisions, deliver robust software, mentor engineers, and improve engineering and operational practices across the broader organization.

An engineer at any level can have a significant technical and business impact. In our area, we specialize on everything related to distributed database systems and cloud services. We are looking for people who have experience or are deeply interested in databases, distributed systems and cloud services. There is always something new to do at our team, whether it’s enhancing our existing products or building a completely new one from scratch.

As a member of the Cloud Services Development teams, you will own the software design and development for major components of Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure. Our team is the centralized database store for Oracle Public Cloud.

Here are some recommended skills that will help you succeed at your job:

* 5+ years of experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems and/or cloud services * Strong knowledge of Java with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, etc. * Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, distributed systems and cloud services fundamentals * Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures * Strong understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, storage, and distributed persistence technologies especially in cloudDesign, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc. * Strong knowledge of Terraforms and/or Ansible is preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.
