WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

SurveyMonkey's Data Platform team manages the Microsoft SQL Server estate behind our core business and product systems, along with supporting relational databases in the cloud. We're looking for a Senior Database Engineer who combines deep SQL Server expertise with an automation-first mindset.

WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON

- Administer production SQL Server environments, including performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, schema changes, and stored procedures

- Plan and execute major version upgrades with minimal downtime

- Own database monitoring and alerting

- Manage transaction log sizing, maintenance jobs, and index health

- Operate and maintain data replication tooling

- Automate credential rotation and enforce encryption and access controls

- Participate in high-availability and disaster recovery testing, and validate backups and restores

- Support PostgreSQL and MySQL-compatible cloud database migrations and upgrades

- Support application teams with design reviews and incident troubleshooting

- Write SOPs and mentor engineers

- Participate in an on-call rotation

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM PEOPLE WITH

- 8+ years as a SQL Server DBA in production, high-availability environments

- Deep T-SQL, execution plan analysis, and performance tuning skills

- Always On availability groups, backup and restore strategy, and disaster recovery

- Experience running SQL Server in AWS

- Automation with PowerShell or Python

- Disciplined change management

- MySQL-compatible managed databases

- Data replication tools

- Infrastructure as code
