About the role
For over two decades, BrainPOP has been trusted by educators and parents worldwide as a source of engaging and impactful learning experiences for all kids. With a presence in over two-thirds of U.S. districts through school and district subscriptions and an estimated annual reach of 25 million students, BrainPOP is empowering kids to take agency over their learning and excel in and out of the classroom.
The company was acquired in 2022 by KIRKBI, the family-owned holding and investment company of the LEGO brand, marking a significant milestone as their first acquisition in the digital learning realm. We are thrilled to continue making learning fun and accessible with the strategic guidance and support of KIRKBI.
BrainPOP is looking for a Senior Full Stack Developer to join our engineering team. You’ll own complex features from design through launch, help shape technical decisions, and support other developers through mentoring and code reviews.
This role is ideal for an experienced, hands-on developer who enjoys solving challenging problems, building reliable web applications, and using AI to improve how we create and deliver content to millions of learners.
What You'll Do
Feature Development & Technical Ownership
- Design, build, ship, and maintain full-stack features using PHP (Laravel) and Vue.js.
- Own complex projects end-to-end, from clarifying requirements and choosing an approach to rollout and ongoing support.
- Help shape application architecture, balancing delivery needs with long-term maintainability and scalability.
- Write clean, well-tested code and raise code quality through thoughtful code reviews.
- Improve application performance, reliability, responsiveness, and accessibility.
AI Integration & Tooling
- Build and integrate AI/LLM capabilities that automate workflows and improve the user experience.
- Evaluate models, prompting approaches, and AI evaluation frameworks, considering quality, reliability, cost, and privacy.
- Collaborate on AI-assisted features such as automated content generation and intelligent study tools.
- Help take promising AI experiments into reliable, production-ready solutions.
Collaboration & Quality
- Work closely with Product, Design, and Engineering peers to turn ideas into practical technical solutions.
- Break down complex work, identify risks and dependencies, and contribute to realistic delivery plans.
- Mentor developers through code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
- Write unit and integration tests and help strengthen testing practices across the team.
- Use observability tools such as New Relic to investigate issues, monitor application health, and prevent recurring problems.
- Contribute to sprint planning and improvements in how the team works.
